The album's original UK release had an unusually long running time and was released with four different song line-ups. All subsequent Fleetwood Mac albums were released on Reprise Records up to the self-titled 1975 album. Then Play On is Fleetwood Mac's first release with Reprise Records after being lured away from Blue Horizon and a one-off with Immediate Records. The album's title, Then Play On, is taken from the opening line of William Shakespeare's play Twelfth Night - "If music be the food of love, play on". 6 on the UK Albums Chart, subsequently becoming the band's fourth Top 20 hit in a row, as well as their third album to reach the Top 10. ![]() The album offered a broader stylistic range than the classic blues of the group's first two albums. Jeremy Spencer did not feature on the album apart from "a couple of piano things" (according to Mick Fleetwood in Q magazine in 1990). It was the first of their original albums to feature Danny Kirwan (although he is also listed on two tracks on the earlier compilation The Pious Bird of Good Omen) and the last with Peter Green. ![]() Then Play On is the third studio album by the British blues rock band Fleetwood Mac, released on 19 September 1969.
